Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come, Sergeant Parks points his gun at her while the others strap her to the chair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes she won't bite. They don't laugh.

Melanie is a very special girl.

First of all, this was waaaaaay different than what I had anticipated. I went in blind, but I was still surprised as to where the story went. It was, to say the least, fascinating and thrilling.

I especially love the characters in this book. Though one does not love them all, you sort of understand where most of them are coming from in their views. I like the battle between humanity and science that's going on, and the ethical question of where to draw the line. What separates animal from human?

I think the best part of this book is the relationships as well, and how they evolve through the story.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes thrillers!
