Book Review:
Persuasion by Jane Austen

Title: Persuasion
Author: Jane Austen
Published: 1818
Language: English
Pages: 320
Rating: 3/5

Anne Elliot was once persuaded by her family not to marry the man she loved. After eight years, circumstance brings Captain Wentworth back into her life and though they are acting like strangers, Anne's feelings are reigniting...

Finally, FINALLY, I have read the very beloved Persuasion, and my expectations were sky high. Having not read Austen in a very long time and English being by second language, I found this a bit difficult to get into. I did, however, very much enjoy the theme and the characters.

This is a very character driven book, and there isn't all that much happening. I quite enjoyed that, as we really get to know Anne and the people around her. It did make it feel a little bit slow for me at times, but overall, it worked very well.

Once I get into it, I find Austen's style of writing very enjoyable. As mentioned, there were some parts I found hard to get through, but the ending definitely redeemed it. I get why everyone loves this book.

I would highly recommend this if you like classical romance with tons of interesting characters.

  1. I absolutely loved this one - far more than I expected. I had seen every possible adaptation of Austen's novels before I started to read her books and the story of Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth wasn't really one of my favorite adaptations (although Wentworth was played by a very attractive actor ...). I found Anne's character way to timid and that bugged me a little bit. I always thought: o, come on! Do something! But I loved the book. It is a slow-boiling romance and I think it is a very good Austen novel to start with.

    1. I think it's a good novel to start with as well. So glad I read it :D
