Summary:
In this book, we follow three different timelines; we meet a zoologist in St Petersburg in 1881, we meet a veterinarian in Mongolia in 1992 and we meet a woman in Norway in 2062 trying to survive on a farm with her daughter. They all have one thing in common; a rare Mongolian horse breed.

Review:
This was a very interesting and enjoyable book. It's the third book in Lunde's series called Klimakvartetten, the first book being The History of Bees and the second one being Blå, both of which I've previously read and liked (the books in this series are very loosely related by the way, so you can read them out of order without really missing anything that important).

I really liked getting to know our characters in here and seeing where the story took them, and it was interesting to see their individual relationships with these horses. It was also interesting to see how these animals where treated in these different timelines and getting to see how the species is surviving. I like how dark the story feels most of the time; all of these characters go through trials in their individual stories, but it never feels overdramatic, it just feels like life.

I think there's something interesting about all three storylines, but my favorite one was the middle one; I thought the veterinarian that we meet is such a complex and fascinating woman and seeing her relationship with her son was fascinating and kind of painful. I really liked the way it was captured and explored though.

One thing I did notice though, was that I felt a little desperate to know more about what the world looked like in the future perspective; it's mentioned and a lot of alluded to, but I wish we had gotten more of an overview and got more information about it.

I can't help but compare this book to the other two books by Lunde, and I think this sits somewhere in the middle of them; The History of Bees is still my favorite out of the three. This is well worth the read though, even if you're not particularly interested in horses.
