This is the first book in the Joona Linna series. The edition I read is a new and improved version of the original book (black edition).

Summary:
Set in Sweden, outside of Stockholm, a gruesome triple murder attracts the interest of Joona Linna who demands to get to investigate the case, and he starts off his chase with enlisting the help of a hypnotist to find out what a severely injured surviving victim saw and knows.

Review:
This series is a huge success here in Norway (I literally feel like everyone has read these books) so I was very excited to start this series, and it didn't disappoint.

It's been a while since I've read such an action packed mystery thriller, and this has everything that I like about Nordic noir; it's dark, gritty and pretty bleak. The plot is fascinating; I was very intrigued by everything that had to do with the hypnosis and all of that and it was hard to figure out what was happening (but in a good way).

The characters in here are pretty good; we mainly follow two characters, the detective and the hypnotist. I liked reading about them both, although the detective still feels quite shrouded in mystery to me, so it'll be interesting to see where his story goes in the following books.

Although this book is over 500 pages, it's fast paced and because the chapters are so short, you fly through it in no time. The plot is what takes up most of those pages and it's exciting, creepy and tense and filled with action. It is quite a violent book though, so bear that in mind if you're sensitive to that.

I can't wait to keep going with the series and see what it has to offer.
