Review:
I'm really happy that I finally got around to reading this; it's a book I've had on my radar for ages and it was very much worth getting to.

I love the setting of this story, the atmosphere and the way the book captures the time period; I could really picture all of it and it works as an excellent backdrop for this story. I really liked getting to know these two women and seeing them fall in love; it was beautiful and sometimes a little sad. It was also really interesting to read about a lesbian relationship set in this time period.

I think the authors writing is solid; it pays a lot of attention to detail and it's at times quite lyrical. Sometimes there were bits of dialogue that felt a bit off to me, but otherwise it was great. There's a lot of emotion and sensitivity to the writing and I really liked that.

That being said, I was not as invested and engrossed in this as I thought I was going to be and I don't really know why that is. It might just be because I generally don't love romance novels and even though I think this is one of the better ones I've read, there was still something in it that didn't quite capture me.

Overall though, this is a modern classic well worth the read.
