Review:
I really, really enjoyed this book! I've seen some other reviews though, finding this really disappointing and I think I know why.

The family we meet in this book is the Mitford family, which is an infamous family that a lot of people are interested in and love reading about, so the characters we meet are based on them. I think a lot of people go into this book thinking that that's going to be a big part of this and it's not, it's actually completely irrelevant. Now, I think I maybe knew this when I bought this book, but I had completely forgotten about it, so I went in with the expectation of it just being a cosy mystery and that's what it ended up being. I didn't realise until the book was almost over that the Mitfords in the book were based on actual people and so I didn't give it any thought.

The mystery in the book is also based on a real event, but that's not really that important either. I really liked the mystery, it was intriguing and dark, and I love the setting of England in the 1920's. I really liked reading about the characters (probably because I had no preconceived ideas before going in) and although the writing style is nothing special, it was very easy to read and get into.

I really do feel like I was able to love this so much because I went in with low expectations, and I'd recommend it if you are able to do the same and if you like cosy historical mysteries. If you're familiar with the Mitfords and want a book about them though, this isn't it.
