Review:
This was an interesting book, but it ended up not being as intriguing as I thought it was going to be.
One thing I really like about this book is the exploration of the themes; it takes a look at surrogacy, body autonomy, race, class and immigrants in modern America. I also like how we explore this story through several different viewpoints, both from the women working as surrogates, as well as the woman who runs the business. I also like how this story feels realistic, and I wouldn't have been surprised if this place had actually existed.
I liked reading about the characters, but I found myself having a hard time really investing in them from time to time, and I think overall, I struggled to feel really invested and pulled into this story. There are several parts that are honestly just very dull, and I think maybe I would've liked this book more if it had taken everything a little bit further, but that might just be because I tend to lean more towards more dystopian stories (I've seen this compared to The Handmaid's Tale by the way, and personally I don't know if that's really a great comparison; this book isn't really dystopian at all).
Overall, I'm left with a feeling of being a little underwhelmed and I think the concept of the story is better than what we ended up with. I do think it's worth the read if you're interesting, but bear in mind that this is a fiction novel with only very slight dystopian vibes. Slight.
