Review:
So, I read this book for a little project I did where I read books from the year I was born and I picked this one because it's a prize winning novel and I thought it sounded like an interesting story with an interesting setting. Sadly, this ended up not quite being for me though.

I do like some things about this book; I like the setting, I like the cultural aspects of this book and I think this idea of being torn between the real world and a spirit world is very interesting. This is an imaginative and creative book filled with magic and things to wonder about.

However, this is way too long and it repeats itself over and over and over. We follow this main character through all of these different scenes and situations and it ends up just kind of being the same thing over and over again without it really making much difference to anything. I think if this had been cut down to a 200 page book, I would've liked it a lot more.

I also did struggle a little bit with the writing style at times; it was sometimes a little confusing to me, sometimes it would go on really boring tangents and very often it has this dreamlike quality to it that honestly I just don't think I like that much, because it just doesn't capture my interest.

So sadly, not all that great of a read for me. I do know a lot of people like this though, so maybe it's just me.
