Title: Someone At A Distance
Author: Dorothy Whipple
Published: 1953
Language: English
Pages: 413
Rating: 4/5
Summary:
Set in the English countryside, this is the story of a family and the destruction of a marriage.
Review:
Whipple never disappoints. Once again, I found myself very much immersed in one of her stories, and out of the books by her that I have read, this is definitely my favorite.
I really enjoyed the themes of family and marriage and the questions around those themes that were brought up in this book. I also loved reading about the characters, particularly the two main women; I thought it was so fascinating how different they were, how they interacted with each other and how differently they looked at the world.
What I love so much about Whipple's books is how easy it is to get invested in the story and I think there's something about the way she writes and the characters she conjures that's excellent at making you feel.
For now, I've given this 4 stars, but it might actually be more of a 5 star read on reflection, because I adored this.
