It's been a while since I've read any dystopian fiction, but this one reminded me why I should try to pick it up more.
This is a slow burning story, which is something I really like and I think it works well. It has a quiet and melancholy feel to it, and that makes the revelation of what's going on even more horrifying. It raises the question of how people can suffer horrible things in silence and how the outside world can decide not to care, but the truth is, a lot of the time, that's exactly what we do.
I didn't mind the romance parts of this book, but I wasn't completely into them either. I did quite enjoy the characters and the writing is pretty good. The best part about it is definitely the thought-provoking aspects of it. It's really made me mull a lot of things over.
I'll admit I'm not completely blown away, but this book was absolutely worth the read and I would recommend it if you like slow stories and dystopia.
