Well. Let me start off by saying that I was really excited to read this book; it sounded just my type of story, a little magical realism, a little weird, it's by a famous author so probably well written... right? Wrong.
After having struggled my way through this, I have no idea what the meaning of it all was. The reason I continued reading it after the first 100 pages, was that I was so sure it would become evident what it was all about, that the strings of the story would come together in the end. But then the end came and it was just nothing.
There are a lot of religious themes, which I usually enjoy, but not in this one. I just don't get it. The more I read, the more lost I got. I feel like this book tried very hard to be literary and original, but got so caught up in it that it just failed. Not only did it fail, it was boring too. So horribly, dreadfully boring.
Perhaps my dislike comes from not understanding the underlying message of this book, if there even is one (I'm baffled as to what that might be). What a sad disappointment and a waste of my time.
