Title: How To Breathe Underwater
Author: Julie Orringer
Published: 2005
Language: English
Pages: 226
Rating: 4/5
Summary:
A collection of nine stories dealing with the subjects of loss, death, tragedies and coming of age.
Review:
This is truly a wonderful collection of short stories.
This is one of the better pieces of contemporary fiction I've read. I enjoyed almost all the stories in this, and I thought the writing was fantastic. The author creates very vivid and tangible scenes.
I especially like that these stories all have a certain darkness to them. They have something haunting about them that I really enjoy. I also thought the way Orringer captures the transition between child to adult to be fantastic.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone, and if you're just getting into short stories, maybe you could start with this.
