Title: The Sign of Four
Author: Arthur Conan Doyle
Published: 1890
Language: English
Pages: 160
Rating: 5/5
This book is a part of the Sherlock Holmes series.
Summary:
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson take on a new case, that of a young woman named Mary Marston, who has received a large pearl in the post every year for the past six years, and now a letter telling her of a treasure she should have inherited.
To seek justice, the three goes to meet her unknown benefactor, and this sets off a series of mysterious events...
Review:
Another enticing mystery from Doyle! As with the first one in this series, I loved this one.
The mystery is thrilling, fast-paced and I especially like the oriental vein that runs through the mystery. Although Sherlock and Watson never leave London, we get to visit all sorts of places.
There's a certain charm to the way Doyle writes. I can't quite pinpoint what it is that I find so enthralling. I like that it's short and concise and still rich. The story is short, but I never felt like I was missing anything.
The characters are wonderful, and I love what a duo the two companions make. They balance each other out in a wonderful way.
I would wholeheartedly recommend picking up some Sherlock Holmes to anyone who loves mystery.
