Review:
Magonia, Magonia, how to rate you... I'm torn about this one. There were parts of this book that I didn't care for, yet the parts I loved, I loved a lot. It's quite original in some aspects, which is rare.

I really enjoyed the writing in this, as I found it to be quite beautiful. I enjoyed the main character and seeing her journey. I enjoyed most of the side-characters. What I loved most was the magical aspects of this; the world of Magonia, the flying ships, the birds and the creatures. I had a very vivid image in my head of everyone and everything.

I felt like there was a little bit missing though. It's quite ambitious, and I think what put me off is that I can feel there's this massive, magnificent backstory, but too much is being held back. Perhaps this is to save it for more books a series, but I wish there was a bit more to go on. In that way, I wish this was longer, that we'd spent a little more time getting to know everyone and everything. So, I feel quite miffed about that.

I do hope there are more books to come from this universe, as I would very much like to read more. There's the very beginning of a love triangle though, which I'm not super excited about, so hopefully it won't be something prevalent in a possible sequel.

I would definitely recommend this if you like young adult fantasy, and want to read something new and fresh to the genre.
