Chava is a golem, created by a disgraced rabbi for a man who intends to bring her to New York as his wife. But when her master dies on the voyage to America, she finds herself alone in New York City in 1899.

In lower Manhattan, a tinsmith accidentally releases Ahmad - a jinni who's been trapped for a thousand years, and who still wears an iron cuff to prevent him from being free.

But soon, a powerful threat arrived in New York, threatening to ruin everything they built for themselves and exposing their true nature.

Review:
I really enjoyed this book. It's a little different from other books I've read before, and I really liked the writing style.

This is a slow burning book. I really like how we have time to really get to know the characters. I loved reading from all the perspectives in this book, and finding out how everything and everyone is connected.

I find with magical realism that if there's magical creatures in it, it's important for the author to remind us of what they really are (because the characters can't very well forget either), if they're supposed to be passing for humans. I thought that was done really well in this story.

I also very much enjoyed the setting. New York was depicted beautifully.

Overall, a great read! I would definitely recommend this if you enjoy historical fiction and magical realism.
