Book Review: If I Stay by Gayle Forman

Title: If I Stay
Author: Gayle Forman
Published: 2009
Language: English
Pages: 196
Rating: 4/5

Summary:
Mia, a cellist, gets into a car accident with her family. When she sees the wreckage, she instantly know her parents are gone. However, when she looks into the car, she sees her own, damaged body...

This is a story of choice; between life and death, to go or to stay, and Mia has to figure out what weighs more; the loss of her family or the love for her music, and of course, her love for Adam.

Review:
I've heard a lot of great things about this book, and I wouldn't call it disappointing. It did take me a little while to get into, as I didn't feel an instant connection with the characters. The connection grows over the pages though, and soon I was enthralled by this story.

I love the mix of flashbacks and the present, and how Mia remembers times with her family, and her falling in love with Adam. I also thought Adam was a character that took a while to fully carve out, but it got quite heartwrenching after a while. I love the description of this first, deep love that they share, and the whole story feels very realistic in the way it's written.

As it took me a while to get into, I feel like I wanted it to be a tad longer so I could dig really deep, but I think that's just me.

Overall, this is an emotional and fascinating story, and I recommend this to anyone who likes contemporary romance novels.

As you can probably see, this book is available as an e-book, but can also be found at The Book Depository*
